VOCATION INTEREST PROMOTERS’ ASSOCIATION
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION:
Canon : 233 par. 1 states : “A duty rests upon the entire Christian community to foster vocation so that sufficient provision is made for the needs of the sacred ministry throughout the entire church”.
In response to this claron call, Most Rev. Dr. G.O. Ochigha, (then the Catholic Bishop of Orlu), in his thoughtfulness and foresight established the association shortly after the opening of Bonus Pastor Seminary Osina. The association was placed under the supervision of Rev. Fr. N.I. Ndiokwere, the founding rector of the seminary. From the record available to us, the association (V.I.P.A) did its first inauguration in 1986. It became a veritable organ for the Bishop to teach the people the importance of the sacred ministry and the need to support the training. From that period till date, the association remained one of the approved solidarities or pious societies in the diocese.
However, during the 2nd phase of Diocese, under Most Rev. Dr. A.T. Ukwuoma, the association received a special boost. As its stands, the association is now know as the organ associated with fostering of vocations.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
To pray for increase on genuine vocations.
To encourage such vocations through voluntary contributions and the association’s other activities towards the priestly training of seminarians.
To support the priest in his human weakness by helping to neutralize some of the calumnies on priest.
To stimulate full involvement of the laity in the tapping of human and material resources in the diocese for the deepening of faith and growth of the church.
Membership of the association is open to all peoplw of goodwill who are interested in fostering vocations in the catholic church. There are three (3) categories of membership.
A life membership of VIP association is very much engaged in the association‘s activities. He/She is one whose regularity, interest, sacrifices in time, talents and treasure put him/her head and should above others.
One may become a probationary membership by serving a probationary period of not less than two years. It depends on one’s intention.
An auxiliary member has keen interest in the association, but has not gotten much time for regular meetings, although he/she is obliged to attend the yearly convention and important VIP association celebrations. He/She prays for increase of vocation regularly. An auxiliary member donates generously.
